The Golden light Poem Sri Aurobindo summary and analysis

 Om namo bagavathe sri vasudevaya πŸ™

Thy golden Light came down into my brain

And the grey rooms of mind sun-touched

became

A bright reply to Wisdom's occult plane,

A calm illumination and a flame.

Thy golden Light came down into my throat,

And all my speech is now a tune divine,

A paean-song of Thee my single note;

My words are drunk with the immortal's wine.

Thy golden Light came down into my heart

Smiting my life with Thy eternity;

Now has it grown a temple where Thou art

And all its passions point towards only Thee.

Thy golden Light came down into my feet,

My earth is now Thy playfield and Thy seat

.

The Golden light is a sonnet ( 14 lines)written in the style of Shakespearean sonnet containing three  quartains and one couplet. Rhyme scheme is abab cdcd efef gg. The repetition of Thy at the beginning of every stanza is Anaphora, a figure of speech.

 The Poet reveals his intense  spiritual experience and enlightenment.Golden light is the symbol of divine light. Sri Aurobindo has brought down the divinity i.e. Supramental consciousness to the earth to transform humanity to lead divine life.

In this spiritualistic poem, he addresses God and gives description of his transformation into a holy being with descend of God's Golden light. The light transmitted from Divine to his body organs i.e. head to toes (brain,throat,heart and feet - all these are Chakras in the body)led him to higher consciousness level.

The Golden light came down from the divine and touched dull, moody, ignorant mind  of the poet .As a result of Sun touch, a calm illumination and a flame of knowledge took birth in his mind,which changed his mind  from ignorance to enlightenment.

Than the light descended  his throat. All his speech was tuned by  God. He sang  praising divinity and his words were mesmerizing, filled with immortal 's wine . His only duty was to sing and spread God's words to all humanity .

 Than the light gradually descended to heart , striking his life with eternity. His heart turned  into a temple as God resided in it. All the emotions born in the heart were pointed towards God's eternal power.

At last the light came down into his feet. Now the earth became  God's  playfield and abode.

The divine responded to the call of the poet to transform the earthly beings. Mankind can make their life meaningful by serving the divine and uniting with divine.
